My experience with resolutions for the new year is that I make them only to break them. However one year it was a different story. I resolved to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. Everything else would be secondary. I had read a quotation on a church bulletin that gave me a way to begin my quest.
"I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year, 'Give me a light that I may see my way into the unknown.'
He said to me, 'Step out into the darkness and put your hand in the hand of God. That is better than a light and better than a known way.'"

All that year this resolution was the focal point of my life. I began to grow as a Christian. Since then my spiritual life has been on the upward swing and at the end of each new year I find that I am standing on higher ground.
