Coming OutHandbook 1: Article 50 - Who In The World Are You?

I was between two worlds
Clothed in darkness.
I would not go forward;
I could not return to what I was
For I had tasted the Light.
My mind that once so longed to know.
Now stagnant,
Confused, empty.
I was afraid.

The physical world rushed by me.
No one listened.
I was powerless,
I was timid,
No one noticed.
The unknown one of God frightened me.
His name, Spirit,
The Holy One of God.
He loomed in my way.

I sensed His displeasure
Piercing my being.
His eyes burned my soul.
His voice spoke, commanding,
"Come out".
Whimpering I spoke -- "I am afraid of You,
Where You will lead me.
I want to feel safe."
My mind urged:
Escape.
Return, retreat.
B.C. Before Christ.

He spoke. "Once I drew you to Me tenderly,
Quieting your fear.
I led you, wooed you,
You promised to follow Me.
Now come out!"
My soul trembled,
The pounding of my heart exploded into every fiber.

"In my world I am secure," I cried.
"I know my way.
In your world I feel lost, helpless.
Why must I leave?
Why can't I love and serve You from here?"
"Spirit," I cried louder,
"Do You hear me?"
Again silence.
And His silence was more frightening than death.

"O Spirit," I whispered.
"Don't leave me.
I cannot turn from You.
You have the Words of Life."
"Spirit!"
Silence.
"Spirit, please hear me!"
Again there was silence.
But in the absolute stillness I knew He was waiting.
With trembling soul I stepped out into
The unknown, unseen world,
The home of my Savior and my God.
I came out.

"A whole new generation of Christians has come up believing that it is possible to accept Christ without forsaking the world. To accept Christ it is necessary that we reject whatever is contrary to Him."

A.W. Tozer

"Do you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God."
