"When the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power to testify about Me with great effect, to the people in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth, about my death and resurrection."
Acts 1: 8
I'm confident that you have read this Scripture many times. I am also confident that when you have heard it discussed the consensus was that Jesus meant for you to witness "where you are", in your neighborhood, your community, etc. It seems to be a logical assumption. But have you considered the possibility that Jesus meant what He said and not something different?
Throughout the Bible, God expresses a love and concern for Jerusalem and Israel above all other places on earth. It is the focal point of all Hebrew and Christian history. Things past, and things to come, center in Israel.
And no one questions that what happens in Israel today affects the whole world, politically and economically. Then why isn't Israel, God's choice, also the center of spiritual influence? Could it be -- think about it -- could it be because Christians have not obeyed what some refer to as the great commission -- to be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, in Samaria?
What would Jerusalem... what would Israel... what would the ends of the earth be today if every Christian since the time of Jesus had begun his witness where Jesus said to begin? Can you picture it? Thousands, yea, millions of Christians witnessing in Jerusalem -- a steady stream of Jesus' followers telling of His love, His truth, His resurrection. Telling that there is no other name under heaven by which a man may be saved and that no one comes to the Father except through Him. What would Israel, what would the world be like today?
